The SCC Message Marquee product lines are various types of signs that are able to show text messages. These units are typically mounted in an overhead position for customer use. Selections made by Marquee customers are to decide the size of characters required, length of messages and whether Red text will satisfy the needs of the application. In many cases the display of text in Red, Yellow and/or Green will enhance the communication intent of the message. To determine the appropriate size to select for the application, the rule of 50 feet of viewing distance per 1 inch of character height can be used. This results in a 200-foot maximum reading distance for 4-inch characters using a normal text font. Messages can be shown as fixed, flashing slow or fast. They may also scroll if the text exceeds the spaces available on the Marquee. Flashing allows for an alert that will cause the word or words to stand out from the rest of the message. SCC also offers message marquees that can be controlled to show various colors for the text. This tool can be used to associate a condition and urgency along with the text. For example: Green text can be associated with an "all Ok" status Yellow may mean that there is a warning (item needs attention but is not critical) and Red can communicate that machines are down or stopped. The multi color products add to the effectiveness of the communications.
The Model 955 Message Marquee shows text in Red, Yellow and Green. The unique capability of this product is that it can operate as an Andon Board, Message Marquee, or both. When controlled to run as an Andon Board, the 955 stores machine status information within the sign. These items are stored in "bins" called up in designated locations on the sign. The user software then controls these locations called "cells" by using row, column and bin commands. The sign then provides more of a traditional "Bingo Board" appearance and is very easy to control. The commands are documented in the SCC Multi-Use Protocol manual. This protocol is open for use and does not require a license.
Our display products are mounted in Nema 12 (IP 55) enclosures to provide for the common manufacturing atmosphere. Other enclosures can be provided as required. SCC commonly adds vinyl labels to signs also to identify sections of the display that are dedicated to certain information. Some examples of labels would be: Area name, Target or Actual (for production rates), Downtime or Station numbers.
SCC manufactures some sizes and arrangements that are considered to be standard. This includes single sided and true double-sided displays (a single enclosure with messages shown on the front and back). The sections of message marquee products can also be used along with many other circuit board options to fit the needs of custom appliations. Options range from a music system to provide audible alerts to dedicated numerical displays, cell boards for showing status at a glance and clocks. The clean, simple and modular engineering design of SCC architecture allows our company to be very flexible in providing the many products that we manufacture. Custom signs are a regular part of SCC's monthly production.
